Looking for someone in the Southwestern Ontario area that repairs Outback Inverters. I suspect I've fried one of the 3 circuit boards in the slave. Hasn't been powered up in a few years and when I tried to turn it one last week I let the magic smoke out. Outback does provide good instructions and video on replacing these boards but I would prefer to have it done by someone who warranties their work and can properly diagnose which board failed and why. If you know of or can recommend anyone I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ric

Hi Ric
I helped a neighbour replace a fried board and it's no big deal. A good idea was to fake the battery bank with a bunch of 9volt cells providing 48 volts...you can see if the inverter will wake up with all the led's properly without an enormous amount of amp hours ready to re-fry :smile1:
The Outback directions were easy to follow and they even included some jokes and one liners.

Thanks Ralph. I watched the video and it seems pretty straight forward. Just wish I knew how to determine which board is bad and what caused it. Maybe it will be apparent when I open it up.

We saw scorch marks on the printed circuit board...pretty easy to tell which one it was. The boards come out and go in quite easily.

Ric, you can also give Outback a call. When the inverter of one of my customers failed they walked him through finding out what board was broken. In fact, in the end they weren't sure and send several different boards. He just mailed back the ones that weren't needed. Seems they're pretty easy-going about fixing.

Thanks Rob & Ralph. I guess todays task will be to open it up and see what visable damage if any I can find. I'll contact Outback after that. The saddest part of this story is that this is a spare inverter I wasn't using. Been trying to sell it for close to a year and finally had a buyer. I tried to power it up the day before he was going to come and get it and this is when the problem started (damn Murphy's Law!!).
Anyway thanks again,
Ric
