Hello Group
Is anyone familar with the cylinder on the older style Jacobs single fold tail vane.
Questions:
1) Is the external check valve assembled on the top or the bottom side of the cylinder?
2) Do the 2 rubber cup O-rings on the piston both face the tail fin or should they be opposed to each other?
3) Is oil required in the cylinder and how much?
4) It appears that the cylinder allows the tail to furl quickly but return slowly. Is this assumption correct?
The manufacturer wasn't to familiar with this system because of it's age, but suggested that it was a good system.
I currently have my tail locked straight, but considering the recent tornadoes to the south
I'd feel better if it could furl correctly real soon.

Thanks

You might want to PM Chris Olson, he knows a guy that has been installing Jakes since they started building them.

Tom,

Check your PM's. Joe Straley up in Avon can help you with that damper. I'll send his cell phone number to you by PM as I'm sure Joe wouldn't appreciate it being posted here.

You're right, a veteran wind guy is required here.

Thanks for the Help!

Yes - damage to the turbine will result in high winds if it's not put together right. Joe is always helpful and he loves Jacobs turbines more than life itself I think. So I'm sure he'll be glad to help you set it up correctly.
