View Full Version : Differences between PVI-6000-OUTD-W-UK2 and PVI-6000-OUTD-W-AU?

Hello,

Does anybody know if there are any functional differences between the country specific models of the Aurora Wind grid inverters. There are quite a lot of different models e.g.

PVI-6000-OUTD-AU-W
PVI-6000-OUTD-FR-W
PVI-6000-OUTD-DE-W
PVI-6000-OUTD-IT-W
PVI-6000-OUTD-ES-W
PVI-6000-OUTD-UK-W
PVI-6000-OUTD-US-W

But they all look to have identical specifications (maybe except the grid voltage?)

More specifically, would a PVI-6000-OUTD-W-UK2 work in Australia (240V, 50Hz), and would it comply to the same standards as the PVI-6000-OUTD-W-AU model ( I ask because I can get hold of the UK model for a lot less than the AU model)?

Thanks so much.

Brad.

My uneducated thoughts on the subject.

Yes, it will probably work perfectly fine. Same voltage and frequency, to start with, and because of historical ties, probably similar legal requiements.

HOWEVER, I'd put a large amount of somebody elses oney on it, that if it's not labelled for Australia, you'll NEVER get approval to connect the UK inverter to the australian grid. Which makes it kind of pointless.

You'd have to ask your lower power distributor if you can hook up the UK inverter. They will undoubtedly ask for full details, and I don't know where you will get them from.

Probably easier to spend the money for the AU version.

Hi Brad,

Welcome to the forum!
The differences are (as you figured) grid voltage/frequency, and regulatory requirements. For example, the US models are all 240V 60Hz, the European models 50Hz. While the voltage can be changed, the frequency cannot. Even if voltage/frequency are correct for your country, the other models will lack the needed registration with the listing agency to get through inspection (for example, we have UL and CSA here in North America, no clue what Australia has but no doubt it works along the same lines over there).

Hi Ben & Rob,

thank you both for the replies, you have confirmed what I suspected (but dreaded!). Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and pay a bit more for the AU model.

Brad.

Brad, try Solar Inverters Pty Ltd in Urunga NSW, http://www.solarinverters.com.au/
They are a distributor for Power-One.
