Whether you need a hammer, socks, or a good deal on prescription pain killers, Wal-Mart is your destination. It should be no surprise that Wal-Mart now sells electricity produced from wind turbines.

Hi Patrick. Welcome to the forum!
It's good to see Walmart getting into green energy. Those turbines are a classic example of how not to site wind turbines though. I doubt those turbines will ever even generate the energy that went into fabricating them. The term in the industry for this is "green washing".

I'd been thinking the same thing. Wind is the wrong solution.

Solar panels though, on their stores, the size that they are, would probably work very well.

Come on - for most corporations it makes far more sense to invest in a solar or wind farm than to have the units on their own facility.

This şis a 'green' statement by Walmart - going by the replies to the original story it is working well. It makes no difference to Walmart as long as the turbines turn for the sake of appearance.

Solar PV should work quite nicely for those big-box stores. Lots of flat roof space available. Ikea here in Ottawa is putting 200kW of PV on the roof of their new store. Not out of the goodness of their heart by the way, but to make money under the feed-in-tariff.

Wind turbines in parking lots is green-washing at its best (or worst). Unless that store is in a very, very windy location they'll never make any real energy.
