200MPG. Electric turbine hybrid. My dream concept.

Now they just need to manufacture and mass market them. Perhaps they can add some utility vehicles to the fleet.

A very good entry for the Automotive X-Prize. I hope they have aspirations beyond that.

Spiffy!
Mark, I think you deserve to drive one of those. Let me know when you're taking possession so I can come over and take it out for a spin! :D

That is one nice car...

PS: I have a turbine engine at home in my garage but I just can't see putting it into a car. It came out of a 'huffer' for starting commercial airline jets. It makes so much noise that you would be deaf before you got out of the driveway. I picked it up because it was free, it looked cool and it makes a nice conversation piece to add to my collection of interesting and odd projects that I am working on. Speaking of odd, my garage alarm system is an old firetruck 'air raid' type siren. Its a good thing that it is mounted inside the garage or the entire town would know that someone is where they shouldn't be...

Hi George,

I've never heard of a 'Huffer'. How big is this thing? How many Horsepower would it be?

The little Solar Turbine unit we integrated for a refinery back up power system was 300kW and would almost fit inside a breadbox. The turbine was smaller than the alternator.

Regards,
Mark

P.S. Remind me to never enter your garage unattended...;)

Hi Mark, a 'Huffer' is an airstart cart used to start large commercial airline jets when their APU isn't working. My turbine engine weighs about 70 lbs.

Well, don't forget that Vespa started out using 2-stroke aircraft engine starter motors, and look where it got THEM.
