There have been some interesting electric vehicles come onto (and go from) the scene over the last few years. However, in Australia we are becoming acquainted with velomobiles.

This link has a list of manufacturers. Most of them are single person vehicles, but seem to be amazingly zippy, even without electric assistance, an option for many velomobiles. With their full enclosed shells they are probably much better for places that have the odd snow fall (rare in Australia) than things like recumbent trikes.
