Below is an interesting article about a beer company in New Zealand using yeast as a biofuels alternative to fuel cars:
New-Zealand drivers can now fill up their cars with a biofuel made from beer by-products. Brewtroleum, created by Gull fuel and DB Expert brewers, is made from ethanol, which is extracted from yeast, left over from local beer brewing as well as normal fuels.
It is said to be the "first commercial fuel in the world" to be made using brewing by-products and is cleaner than normal petrol or diesel. It also creates up to eight percent less carbon dioxide than regular fuel and delivers the same performance.
Brewtroleum has been available at filling station on New Zealand's North Island since Monday 6 July. Cars have been piling in at stations to take advantage of this genius invention, including a free $50 fill to boost the launch of this new biofuel.
Read more on the launch of beer-based biofuels and make sure to watch the hilarious take on why consumers should be drinking more beer for a sustainable future.
Just another example of how innovative the global community has become to provide sustainable alternatives for the future.
