Hello Jack,
I have here in the warehouse a 5kw defect hummer generator
it has earth fault.
after opening up the dome we found a very nice made generator
(honest is honest also when it comes from china)
we stopped here to dismantle it further because we have replaced it on customer site with a new one.
and i do not know where the neodym magnets are.
the insite on the opened front is not magnetic.
if you like we could unscrew the front further and find out what is insite.
as i see so far there is no rust or oxidation (that was what i had expected)
the spools are waxed and seem to be tight.

what i think is that the outsite of the spools have touched the housing and the wire paint is off ,
or the generator is overloaded and it is burned insite.
on a place that i cannot see at this time yet.
but it does not smell what so ever

look at the pictures i try to send
this generator have been working for 4 years

I look at your pics and agree looks good

I am thinking the Magnets could be underneath and run on the face of the windings

these are not rotate though must be close tolerance to shell

Can you tell me outside thread is left or right

I can say am happy to have good communication with person and not Chinglish
:)

if magnets are a disk then it should Be possible to
unscrew the rotor
to get the dome of best use a load strap and
pull it around the dome
then you can hit the locker from the strap
with a hammer

looking at the point of the dome
counter clock is turning it loose

Good Day Mr Van Houten

I Have decide to open Generator and Look for Obvious Faults

I took off tower and blades this day but will check earth fault still happening with every move

From your observation before I expedite the Dome removal "How much Gap distance between" the housing and the Windings???

Thank you for your interest

Jack:)

i guess about 3-4 mm

Jack, there is another way around the ground fault (assuming you have a Power-One/ABB inverter): You could put an isolation transformer between the inverter and the grid. With that in place the ground-fault detection can be switched off in the Power-One inverter.

We've had turbines where at the end of the day that was the only solution that worked. The downside is that a 6kVA isolation transformer is not cheap.

Thanks Rob,

But First let him try to find out what is going on,
this installation have worked so there must be something wrong.

your idea will work but is a work-around on the problem.
further will the transformer eat power also when the generator is not turning
a 6kw transformer uses up in standby about 60 watts
24hr -365days = 525 kwh pro year
that is lost on production
And I know that you could switch this on and off but that means even more electronics

let first keep it simple and find the fault

And it is not known on this moment how big the earth fault is
the tower could also become a live conducter

Rob

The fault, although being an earth or Frame fault seems to manifest itself in a partial load on the gen as well so it wont even spin fast when there is an open circuit on the leads

I am hoping to open the dome, which brings the question is how did Mr Van H take off the dome as I have found that my is extremely hard and I noticed no burn marks or scratches on the paintwork in the pictures

Any suggestions as how to unscrew the dome will be helpful

Hi there all

On taking Mr Van Houtens advice I managed to take the Turbine head to a respected Large Electric Motor repair Shop.

Using the suggested Load Binder Strap Method and Hammer they managed to remove the Dome and poke around inside. having removed the Innards they have advised me that they are unable to rewind the Stator because its "Special" I will be visiting on Thursday and take Photos of the Inside if there is any Interest.

This brings me to my current Dilemma having an unrepairable 5Kwatt turbine head and the need to Re Install some replacement Power Source

The general wind Speeds here are mostly average 7-9 M/s and can be turbulent from all directions but the South West where there is clear Air.

I feel that the Complication of the Manifestly Poor Control equipment I have associated with the HUMMER Turbine will break Down as soon as I replace the Head and leave Me Stranded.

Does anybody have any thoughts on VAWT suitable to mount on a 12 Metre Tower (My general thoughts being that control is limited to braking and rectification)

Jack:confused:

do your self a favour and put
a windspot 3.5 on the tower

Thank you for your reply
I am unaware of this turbine type are you able to supply info or a link to supplier please
