I currently use the free FEMM 4.2 2D magnetic modeling. Very nice for a free solution. I use 123D Design by autodesk for mechanical modeling. I want to take my design further without expensive prototyping so was looking into 3D or digital prototyping magnetics software. Autodesk Inventor does not seem to analyze the power production, counter motive forces etc. associated with alternators. Am I wrong? Inventor seems to have available expansions, is one electro-mechanical?
Is there a design software which accounts for the magnetic forces in an alternator design? I am working with both DC electro-magnets and permanent magnets. Is there an "industry standard" which would be recommended to learn?
I am pleased with the design for my approach and hope to achieve better than average efficiency but my guesses in this are barely even educated. I am a trained technician and this is far from my field but I can not seem to resist playing with these designs. Any suggestions for software I should investigate?
