If you want an easy way to use waste oil of almost any type then look at the waste oil nozzles for home metal foundries. I use a propane/forced air system for doing aluminum but have often considered switching to a waste oil/forced air system. This would allow me to melt steel and iron. There are a very large number of people doing this and have been for a long time. Nothing new, just another application for well known devices.
They are simple to build or buy and could be used to run a boiler and power a turbine. Basically, the oil is dripped onto a screen with air being blown through it, then ignited. Use the flame to heat a boiler with turbine and generator, and you have a very simple emergency or off-grid steam system burning waste oil.
I visit alloyavenue.com from time to time and they have many easy nozzle designs posted in their forums.
