Does anyone have any advice on how I can educate myself with diy wind power? I guess I am asking for someone who knows what they are doing to point me in the right direction. My skills are limited. An overload of information exists here online and it can be overwhelming to a layman... at least myself anyway. I have looked at all kinds of sites for many months and still don't know what to do sometimes. You could call this diy wind power for dummies. That is what I need, lol. For an off grid setting. Any site suggestions or where a newb like myself can start? Rob Beckers has been very helpful but instead of asking questions over and over I want to educate myself so I don't have to bother ya'll.

This is a video of the pvc wind turbine I have started.

I also have a hornet wind turbine that I have put together but am waiting on how to go about the tower. I have all the parts, the hole dug, the concrete for the base, etc... but want to make sure I do it right.

I hope my questions makes sense.

Thanks

John, one of the best sites with DIY and general wind turbine info is Hugh Piggott's site, http://www.scoraigwind.com/

Hidden in there is a link to a PDF Hugh wrote about how wind turbine blades work. Understanding that will get you a long way to understanding how turbines work: http://www.scoraigwind.com/wpNotes/bladeDesign.pdf

He has published a book with detailed plans on building a turbine as well. Even if you don't plan on actually building it's a great way to learn about turbines.

Hugh's site links to the Otherpower site of Dan Fink & Dan Bartmann, they also wrote a good DIY guide on building turbines. https://www.amazon.com/dp/0981920101/ref=cm_sw_su_dp

Otherpower runs the Fieldlines forums; those are probably the most active forum on DIY wind turbines and such. http://www.fieldlines.com/index.php

Enjoy!

This is a picture of the tower. I have to add some more concrete and the guy wires but seeing this up made me happy.
