Hi,
New to the forum and wind energy. I just installed a system into a pole barn we use as a cabin for hunting. My first question here will be about the batteries. I have 4 deep cycle batteries in the system.

Will the batteries be ok left in the barn during our Ohio winters when the barn isn't in use for several weeks/a few months? Is there a way I can leave them there without bringing them home every winter?

Hi Barry,

As long as the batteries were fully 100% charged you can leave them sit for a few months without any problem. Just disconnect everything, or if you have solar PV and expect some sun during that time you can leave the charge controller connected and disconnect everything else.

The trick for this to work is that the batteries really need to be 100% charged when you put them away. That means a full cycle of bulk-absorb all the way to float.

I've written a battery care article that may be of interest: https://www.solacity.com/lead-acid-battery-care/
