Hi There

From google I found this post: https://www.greenpowertalk.org/showthread.php?t=22677

I see the user recieves some help getting his MPPT curve better. I too am looking to optimizing the curve, as I have come to the conclusion that the preconfigured settings are not optimal.
I have similar HYE Turbine but only the smaller model HY-1500 (http://www.energi-experterne.dk/sites/default/files/HY-1500L%20Owner%27s%20Manual.pdf)...

Hoping someone here, Rob perhaps ;) ;), will be able to help me out.

Jacob, I'll be happy to help if I can. I'm a bit short on time right now and will check out the spec sheet later. The long and short is that I'll need the same info as in the other thread you linked to.

Dear Rob

Thank you so much. As I understand, you need the diameter of turbine rotor. This would be 2050 mm.

The turbine has a rated output of 1500W which should be produced at 12 m/s. Not sure about what the voltage should be at that point though. I am waiting for HYE to come back to me regarding their opinion on the correct curve :)

Would you know the Voltage (DC preferably, under load) at one point? It doesn't have to be rated output, any point is fine, though the higher output levels work better. I would need a single point with Voltage, output power, and wind speed to match the rest of the curve to it.

Hi Rob

I got these power curve settings from HYE

HY-1500
System Voltage Preset Power Measured power
30 0 0
40 0 0
50 0 0
60 0 0
70 0 0
80 10 24
90 50 72
100 100 121
110 150 193
120 220 268
130 300 341
140 390 413
150 480 486
160 570 586
170 660 689
180 750 763
190 840 858
200 930 960
210 1020 1059
220 1110 1157
230 1200 1236
240 1290 1341
250 1380 1416
260 1470 1521
270(740rpm) 1560 1565
280 1600 1565
290 1600 1565
300 1600 1565
310 1600 1565
320 1600 1565

Remark: Please preset the power which with higher voltage ( >320V),
same as the power when voltage is 320V.
For example, if the voltage is 330V, the Preset Power should be as
1600W and the Measured power is 1565W

And according to their performance chart, should be 1500 Watt at 12 m/s wind, so I would think it should be something like 265V, 1500 Watt at 12 m/s.
Hope this is usable, or else let me know what else you would need :)

Hi Jacob,

For that output power to be true the overall efficiency would have to be around 45%. That includes rotor efficiency, alternator efficiency, and inverter efficiency. That is not likely. Typical small wind turbine efficiencies overall are more around 35%.

I assume you've already tried to run the turbine with the curve from the manufacturer? How did that work out?

If I use 35% overall efficiency I get the following curve:

Wind (m/s) RMP DC Volt Watt Out
3 184 76 0
3.5 215 88 0
4 246 100 0
4.5 277 111 17
5 307 123 38
6 369 146 93
7 430 168 169
8 492 189 270
9 553 210 399
10 615 230 559
11 676 250 754
12 738 268 986
13 799 287 1259

Looks like they are willing to draw up to 1500 Watt from the alternator, so you could set the next point at 290 Volt and 1500 Watt. That will put a load on and help keep the turbine under control.

Hope this helps!
