Hi! I am trying to understand wind turbines.

I want to purchase a 2kw wind turbine. What I have found so far is that on average it generates 100-500 Watts on a 3-5m/s wind power. It means it generates on average around 15kw per day. It increases as the wind is faster. What I am trying to understand is what I need to store the extra energy that I don't consume. I assume I need batteries that are the same V as the turbine, correct? How much can I store with them? How much do they usually cost?

Thank you,
Dragos

Welcome Dragos

Don't expect too much from small wind. I have a good (Bergey) 1kw turbine in about 4m/s wind exposure...my yearly harvest averages 700kwhrs/year. A few high days, a few high months, but overall not a lot.

I would like to hook my self here. I'm a newbie to - can somebody throw me some useful links - I would like to look through some working projects.

I'm especially interested in coils, magnets (equations, parameters) - cause I'm thinking of building my own turbine I just need to sum possible expenses and gains. Thanks, and sorry if interrupt.

Tomy, much as it pains me to promote the competition, have a look over at Fieldlines: https://www.fieldlines.com/

Lots of people building turbines, with calculations for windings, magnets etc. Keep us in mind though when you build something! Please post a few pics!

@Rob Beckers thanks! I'm gonna check things out there, but I will definitely go back here, cause of your honest response. IF I will build my own wind turbine (I hope it will be fun to learn new stuff and get a little bit free energy to use), I will definitely post here pics with description.
