Hi Rod. My friend has a Grid tied Whisper 500 that is not working.
I have 2 questions for you.
1 the Aurora inverter was replace with a solar grid Xantrex (200 to 400v input) Is this inverter capatible for wind (does it have setable tables like the Aurora)
2 does the Aurora Magnetek wind box need to see resistance or voltage on the dc side. It is sending power to the dump load at the moment and stalling the turbine. Or is it fried.

Thank you

Hi Jocelyn,

Solar inverters (any brand) do not work the same as a wind inverter. There is no MPPT table, and they won't work with a wind turbine.

You can sometimes find a used Power-One wind inverter on eBay, and if that doesn't work, there is an Irish company that makes a solution enabling the use of a solar inverter with a wind turbine: https://www.voltsys.com/

I can't tell from here if the PVI-Wind-Interface box is fried or not. It is powered from the wind side, there is no power supply from the inverter side. Basically it's just a glorified rectifier and you don't really need that particular box to connect a wind turbine to a Power-One wind inverter. A 3-phase rectifier and a heat-sink will do the same.

The wind box does have a dump load output that gets switched on at 520V DC (if I remember right). If your turbine uses that dump load you'd have to create another solution, such as the over-Voltage protection listed on our site (https://www.solacity.com/power-one-abb-aurora-solar-wind-inverters/).

Hope this helps!
