Hi guys
I have a 500 watt wind turbine and a 12 volt battery bank. (3 batteries). On windy days the brakes on my wind mill cut in alot which is bad for turbine apparently. So I want to order items for dump load. Anyone have any Info on what I will need.
Ex: size of 12v element or 12v heater.
Where to purchase dump load controller/ solenoid or make myself.
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Randy,

Morningstar's Tristar series charge controllers can be set up as a "diversion controller". That allows the wind turbine to tie directly to the batteries, and the charge controller makes sure the batteries follow their usual charge profile, diverting any excess to a dump load.

There are 12V water heater elements that would make a good diversion load, for example https://www.amazon.ca/Watt-Submersible-Water-Heater-Element/dp/B00KLKGJ1I

Hi there,

I use a diversion controller from

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/12V-24V-LCD-Relay-SSR-Diversion-Dump-Control-Regulator-Sol-Wind-Hyd-2URDC-1224-B/151447065196?hash=item2342f2d26c:g:F8oAAOSwS~9c1D3 j

Its from a guy called jeff mason - they are reliable I had one working for three years.
you would need a solid state relay also to divert the load.

I have a few videos not many on youtube

i dump power to a few resistors, but I have a chinese controller which also has a internal dumpload. I guess you could also install one of these depending on your area.

Any questions let me know
