Hi Paul,

Any fear of Vodka (ethanol) harming drainback system components? Hose, fittings, pump seals, etc.? Wouldn't the alcohol evaporate fairly quickly in a drainback system?

I was thinking of using propylene glycol (non-toxic plumber's anti-freeze, the pink stuff).

Thanks.
Mark

Hi Mark: personally I think I would stick with the propylene/glycol mix since its proven from a compatability standpoint in most areas.. Some air bleeders/vents in solar/hydronics systems may be a little hassle(weeping) with the syropy nature of the glycol. Of course you lose some efficiency as well but gain peace of mind of not splitting your pipes and panels. It gets Cold in Bancroft so at least 50/50 mix is in order. Also note it may still Slush up at this concentration but no solid freeze. Play with some mixtures in your freezer.. Anyway I'm unsure of this ethanol/alcohol thing in a drainback application but its still common in sealed/evac tube systems Alot. Paul:):)
