Hi,

I have invested several hours looking for dimmable CFL's that will fit into a chandelier. I am sure you have seen them - they are small and are shaped like candles. Do these simply not exist? None of the big CFL distribution companies appear to carry them.

Does anyone know where I can find CFL's for that?

Thanks,
Gordon

Hi GS,

Not sure where you are located. In case you're in the US or close to the border (so you can ship to a UPS Store or similar place and pick up): My favorite store for specialty bulbs or bulk bulbs is 1000Bulbs.com (http://www.1000bulbs.com/). They have a wide selection of dimmable CFLs (http://www.1000bulbs.com/Dimmable-Compact-Fluorescent-Bulbs/). Take a look at their offering, it's a great place for all kinds of bulbs (including LEDs). I've bought full-spectrum T8's from them by the case in the past, their price offset shipping cost by a wide margin and they were double-boxed (not a single broken tube).

Thanks Rob,

Raleigh, NC - home of www.LLFInc.com manufacturer of LED home lighting.

I found some dimmable candle-type CFL's at 1000bulbs.com but at $12 each, they are really very expensive. K-bulbs also carries the LLF Inc lights, but at $45 MORE than I can buy them for locally. Perhaps they are more competitive on standard T8's.

By the way, I bought 1 of the LF6 LED lights to see if I like it. If anyone wants to know, I'll post a review.

I don't know if there are any chandelier versions, but I have seen these CFL's myself, and they actually work.
Maybe the link is helpfull.

Hi GS,

I used to live in Durham for 12 years, just around the corner from you so to speak...

Dimmable CFLs are not cheap. I paid more than $12 for the two I have in my house (bought them locally). They were for testing how well, or not, dimmable CFLs work. The dimming works, but it's not great. Both bulbs dim unevenly (one goes long before the other), and there comes a point where they go from a certain amount of light to completely off.

My house was full of dimmers, just about every light switch had one on it. I've since then replaced most of them with regular switches. Just so I could change the bulbs to CFLs.

It's probably not what you're after, but I'm hoping to build an extension room on my house and I'm thinking of installing dual light fittings and wall switches, so I can have a 3-5 watt CFL in one and a 15-20 watt in the other, so I can have two different levels of light, depending on need. It's probably not as cheap as installing a dimmer switch, but if you're going to have go "into the wall" in any case it may be an option.

An idea for a bright young inventor is a fitting which will go into a standard light socket which will hold two light globes and has a "pull chain" switch to change from one globe to another.
