Hi all, i`m new here (cool site bty) and have a question i hope somebody can answer for me.
I would like to generate some power for a few shed lights etc and there is a small creek behind my shed so i was thinking of building a waterwheel/turbine connected to a small motor, here`s the thing. the motor i have is in very good shape and it`s from a disabled persons scooter. its 24 volt 800w and made by tmc. Would this motor work ok as a generator, what would i need to do to it to get it to work if anything?, thanks

Hi Mark,

Try a little searching, there are several members that are active in water turbines. In particular, take a look at Mark Parson's thread about his latest creation. He'll probably chime in since he regularly checks back on the forum, if not, send him a PM.

Greetings Mark,

I suspect a scooter motor would make a decent PM Generator. Hook up a DC voltmeter to it and give it a spin by hand. How many volts can you get?

Regards,
Mark

hi, sorry am abit late replying, tried the motor by hand and i`m getting about 1.2v, at about 250rpm, i`m getting 7.4v and at 600 rpm i`m getting around 13.4v. put a cordless drill on it to spin it up.

Can you give some detail about your water supply.
You can look up my thread on a water turbine I built using a axial flux alternator.
It spins at 40 rpm and puts out 65 watts @ 22 volts with no gearing required.
