Nice article Paul. I've heard about the passivhause before. The construction of one in PEC would be a real head bashing (yours against the brick wall of Planning Department). I had heard that Garry Davis told someone that composting toilets wern't against code but that he would put a stop work order on a home that tried to put one in. Knob.

I'm glad I built in the '80's. My building permit cost $45. Hydro permit probably $50. Times change. I also moved in with plywood floors, no interior doors, no kitchen cupboards. Couldn't do that now (legally).
