Any people in the group that has converted meter base wiring to use a 240 volt meter in the 120 volt mode. for energy monitoring. Paul:)

Hi Paul,
You should be able to hook it up as usual, just don't connect the second (split) phase. No conversion needed. Those meters are built to correctly measure the energy going through for one phase, the other phase, or both.

Greetings Paul,
I assume you are asking about a Sangamo standard residential electromechanical unit?
A couple of links for your reference.
This guy is a collector and has pictures of each vintage model and type:

The 'meter theory' section on this site has a number of wiring diagrams and form factors:

Looks like Outback has tested the configuration. You on Hydro One? Going for net metering?

Yes .,I'm on hydro one. I've chased the Kilowatts around and back and now there slowly trying to creep back.. I want to use this meter for monitoring 240v loads as well as 110 v. with the 220v meter and maybe keep it portable. then maybe permanantly mount in 110v leg off the inverter for monitoring again. If you follow the link on previous doc. I need to change the meter base wiring to use this meter in a 110 only circuit. Its very hard to get back to 10 kwh/day when you have an electric dryer...OUCH !!!! In the meantime I'm still playing with dwelling heatloss loads in which the savings pay me twice. (heat and electricity reduction) Paul:) Oh as far as net metering I think they need to ripen the deal alot more than $0.42 per Kwh plus a hefty grant to get this plan rolling as Germany did.. A 16% eff. pv panel cannot compete with a solar thermal collector that will run at 80+ % efficiency.

Rob the meter base is wire diff. for using 220 meter in 110 volt only circuit as per the link.. Paul

Hi Paul,
Net metering is different than the Standard Offer Contracts you reference the $0.42 per kWh for solar PV.
Net metering just offsets your hydro bill. If you're making the power anyway - why not offset?:D

With all the transmission, line losses, debt reduction, oops, etc, etc, charges on your bill it would be nice to reduce the impact they create with lower net kWh.
BTW - I wish we were down at 10kWh per day. My bills routinely indicate almost 40 kWh / day. I heat with gas. Wayyyy to many appliances and of course - teenagers.

Thanks Paul!
I'm trying to wrap my head around the way that's hooked up. Looks like they are backfeeding where the second (split) phase normally hooks up, with the first phase. Can't figure it out right now what effect that has, maybe I need more coffee!

Yep...I'm trying to wrap my brain around this wiring as well. I was more concerned as to what screw/clip that #18 neutral referance wire connects to as I don't really want to make a brick out of my meter .I guess I could temporarily fuse it with a 1/4 amp fuse or less,. to see ifs its going to at least work first w/o to much damage..Paul:)

I did find this recently from outback on the connection of a form 12s meter. You Have to extract the photo and enlarge it a little since my eyes are not getting any better and I don't know if you guys can read it in this format...Paul
